Bringing New Life to a Historic Fletcher Place Landmark
Some projects are about building something new. Others are about helping an important old space serve a new generation.
Grounded Solutions recently partnered with Stenz Corp to complete the electrical work for Lille Bønne Community Living Room, a newly renovated community space at 701 E. McCarty Street in Indianapolis’ Fletcher Place Historic District.
Housed inside a historic Danish church dating back to the 1870s, Lille Bønne brings new activity to a building that has served as a gathering place for generations. Today, the restored space welcomes the community for coffee, yoga, art classes, live music, private events, and more.
A Historic Indianapolis Building Reimagined
Long before it became Lille Bønne, the building was home to a Danish congregation in Fletcher Place.
The church served not only as a place of worship, but also as a cultural and social gathering place for Danish immigrant families. Community meetings, meals, celebrations, and neighborhood life all took place within its walls.
Many of the details that gave the original church its character remain today, including its vaulted ceilings, stained-glass windows, and woodwork. Lille Bønne’s renovation preserved those architectural elements while giving the building an entirely new purpose.
For our team, being part of that transformation made this more than another commercial electrical renovation in Indianapolis.
It was an opportunity to help bring a historic building back to life.
Partnering With Stenz Corp on the Electrical Renovation
Grounded Solutions partnered with Stenz Corp to handle the electrical portion of the Lille Bønne renovation.
Working within an older building brings a different set of considerations than starting from the ground up. Existing architecture, preserved finishes, modern electrical needs, and the future use of the space all have to work together.
That type of work is a natural fit for our commercial electrical team. Grounded Solutions regularly supports commercial construction and renovation projects throughout Central Indiana, including remodels, custom build-outs, lighting solutions, new circuits, and full electrical construction.
At Lille Bønne, the goal was to support the building’s next chapter while respecting what made the space special in the first place.
Built to Support a New Kind of Community Space
Lille Bønne describes itself as a community living room, and the finished building has been designed to accommodate far more than one use.
Visitors can stop in for coffee, spend time working, attend a yoga or art class, gather for live music, or take part in community events. The space includes both a café and studio areas designed for classes, private events, and programming.
That flexibility is part of what made the renovation so rewarding to see completed.
A building constructed more than a century ago is now serving an entirely new mix of people and purposes, while still maintaining the character that has made it a Fletcher Place landmark.
Preserving the Past While Building for What Comes Next
Historic renovation projects require a careful balance.
The building needs to function for modern occupants without losing the architectural details and sense of place that made it worth preserving.
At Lille Bønne, the original vaulted ceilings, stained glass, and wood details remain an important part of the finished space. Rather than replacing its history, the renovation created a new use around it.
We love seeing old buildings brought back to life and are happy that the spirit of hospitality that filled this building for more than 150 years is alive and well.

Lille Bønne describes its vision as a space rooted in history and reimagined for the present, and the finished project delivers exactly that.
For us, it’s another reminder of why we enjoy renovation work so much: great buildings don’t always need a new beginning. Sometimes they just need a thoughtful next chapter.
